Narratives on Collaboration: Optimizing Management of Immune-Related Adverse Events
An increasing number of cancer patients are receiving therapy that targets immune checkpoints. These agents represent a remarkable advance in cancer care but are associated with characteristic immune-related adverse events (irAEs) that are driven by the same mechanisms responsible for their therapeutic effects. While most of these toxicities are mild to moderate, some can be serious and potentially life-threatening. As such, it is critical for oncology clinicians to anticipate, monitor for, and manage irAEs appropriately. This is a daunting task that requires mastering an evolving body of knowledge for a newer class of drugs about which few clinicians have received formal training. Narratives on Collaboration: Optimizing Management of Immune-Related Adverse Events—an interactive digital monograph certified for continuing education credit—is thus being offered to improve the ability of oncology advanced practice providers to provide high-quality care for patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Clinicians interested in mitigating irAEs may also wish to participate.
Learning Objectives
After completing this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
- Identify key characteristics associated with irAEs, including body systems affected and timing of emergence
- Plan strategies to monitor for irAEs
- Apply evidence-based best practices to manage irAEs
- Devise strategies for providing patient-centered education and counseling regarding irAE self-management
- Select approaches to engage patients in monitoring for and managing irAEs
